The Mercedes-Benz GLB SUV combines compact exterior proportions with flexible passenger space, available three-row seating, modern technology, and turbocharged performance. The GLB uses its upright cabin shape to provide useful passenger room within a compact luxury SUV. Current models seat five passengers as standard and offer an optional third row that expands capacity to seven. The sliding, reclining, and 40/20/40-split folding second row allows the cabin to be adjusted around passengers, child seats, luggage, or longer cargo.
Current GLB 250 models include power front seats with three-position memory, dual-zone automatic climate control, MB-Tex upholstery, a power liftgate, and remote-start access through the Mercedes-Benz app. Available upgrades include heated front seats, leather upholstery, 64-color ambient lighting with illuminated vents, a panoramic roof, hands-free cargo access, and a Burmester® Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos®.
The current MBUX system includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a separate 10.25-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, voice control, multiple USB-C ports, and a household-style power outlet are standard, while navigation, wireless phone charging, a head-up display, and augmented video for navigation are available.
The current GLB 250 measures 182.4 inches long, 72.2 inches wide without its mirrors, and 66.7 inches tall. Its 111.4-inch wheelbase helps create a spacious cabin while preserving dimensions that remain manageable in parking garages, crowded shopping areas, and city traffic.
Front passengers receive 41.1 inches of legroom, while the second row provides 38.1 inches. With the optional third row installed, the GLB provides 29.1 inches of third-row legroom. Current cargo capacity ranges from 12.4 cubic feet with all seating areas in use to as much as 62.0 cubic feet when the rear seating is folded.
The second row can slide and recline, allowing drivers to adjust the balance between passenger comfort and cargo room. The upright roofline also helps preserve headroom through the first two rows and gives the cargo area a more usable shape than many lower-roofed compact crossovers.
The current U.S. GLB lineup includes the GLB 250, GLB 250 4MATIC®, and Mercedes-AMG® GLB 35. The GLB 250 and GLB 250 4MATIC® use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with mild-hybrid assistance, producing 221 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The front-wheel-drive GLB 250 is rated at 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, while the GLB 250 4MATIC® is rated at 24 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. Both reach 60 mph in an estimated 6.9 seconds. The 4MATIC® model adds variable-torque all-wheel drive and an Off-Road Engineering Package with an additional drive mode and downhill speed regulation.
The Mercedes-AMG® GLB 35 increases output to 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It reaches 60 mph in an estimated 5.4 seconds and adds AMG® Performance 4MATIC®, an AMG® SPEEDSHIFT® eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, three-stage AMG® RIDE CONTROL suspension, upgraded brakes, and AMG®-specific drive settings.
The 2027 GLB is an all-new generation rather than a minor refresh. Mercedes-Benz has widened the wheelbase and redesigned the roofline to increase first- and second-row legroom and headroom. Available seating for seven remains part of the GLB formula, while the new cabin introduces MB.OS, fourth-generation MBUX, an AI-supported virtual assistant, and an available floating MBUX Superscreen.
The gasoline-powered 2027 GLB uses a new M252 four-cylinder engine with Miller-cycle combustion and 48-volt technology, along with a newly developed multilink rear suspension. Mercedes-Benz currently uses preliminary CLA figures of 221 horsepower and 258 lb-ft as a reference, but official U.S. GLB output has not yet been finalized. Gasoline and hybrid variants are expected to begin reaching dealerships in early 2027.
A fully electric GLB is also joining the lineup. Mercedes-Benz has announced a rear-wheel-drive GLB 250+ with 268 horsepower and a GLB 350 4MATIC® with 349 horsepower. Both use an 85-kWh battery and support DC charging at up to 320 kW. Mercedes-Benz has published preliminary European WLTP range estimates, but U.S. EPA range estimates have not yet been released. The electric GLB is expected to arrive in fall 2027.
Other announced features include an available SKY CONTROL panoramic roof, an available Burmester® 3D Surround Sound System, standard high-performance LED headlights, and MB.DRIVE assistance and parking systems.
