Exterior of the 2025 Mercedes G-Class Wagon

If you’re in the market for a luxury wagon SUV that will make heads turn, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a must-have. This upscale vehicle has a rugged design and incredible performance that’s ideal if you want to make a powerful statement with your car, or you just want the perfect level of comfort and performance for your ride. For 2025, Mercedes-Benz has made some important changes to the G-Class lineup, including tweaks to improve aerodynamics.

Exterior Design

The 2025 G-Class retains its typical bulky appearance, which is great for an off-road-ready vehicle. However, Mercedes-Benz has made some alterations to the front end to help improve the aerodynamics and secure better fuel economy, such as a small spoiler on the front of the roof to help redirect air up and over the G-Class. When you view this vehicle from the front, you’ll notice the new grille and bumper design and the reshaped A-pillars. The electric version of the G-Class will also showcase some of these adjustments.

In keeping with its off-roading prowess, the 2025 G-Class has over 9 inches of ground clearance. Mercedes-Benz boasts that this vehicle can ford up to 27.5 inches of water, underscoring that it’s ready to respond to just about any challenge you could throw at it.

New Hybrid and Electric Options

Mercedes-Benz has already taken the G-Class through a huge transition. From its original profile as a rugged off-roader, the gas-powered G-Class has kept much of its off-roading capabilities while emerging as a luxury vehicle and status symbol. Now, Mercedes-Benz is planning a further significant shift with the introduction of an all-electric G-Class. The 2025 G580 with ESQ Technology, or more simply the G-Class electric vehicle (EV), will hit showrooms sometime next year. It promises to retain the iconic capabilities of the G-Class and introduce a potent new powertrain.

Four individually controlled motors will power this new EV and combine to churn out an impressive 579 horsepower and 859 lb-ft of torque. Due to the ability to control the four motors individually, the G-Class EV can turn within the space of its own length by performing a tank turn. This vehicle is also quick off the line, with Mercedes-Benz estimating that it can go from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. In terms of styling, the G-Class EV will still have the popular bulky appearance of the standard G-Class to underscore its abilities when handling rough terrain.

For its first model year in 2025, we’re expecting the G-Class EV to have a starting MSRP of around $168,000. Its Edition One trim will come fully loaded, with Mercedes-Benz set to release other versions with a lower price tag in the future. The cabin features nappa leather upholstery and ambient interior lighting that lets you configure the cabin to your favorite color.

Performance

The biggest change in the gas-powered G-Class for 2025 is its new engine. In the previous version of this vehicle, a twin-turbo V-8 cranked out around 415 horsepower. Mercedes-Benz has switched this out for a turbocharged inline-six engine with a 48-volt motor.

This hybrid system is good for an improved 443 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. When you hit the accelerator, you can go from zero to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. We don’t have fuel economy numbers yet, but we’re expecting a slight improvement over the 13 mpg in the city and 16 mpg on the highway with the V-8.

This Mercedes-Benz stands out for its towing ability, with a maximum capacity of 7,716 pounds. That’s more than enough to cope with a midsize camper, a loaded utility trailer, or a boat. Thanks to this hauling capability, the 2025 G-Class is a great choice if you’re planning a camping road trip with your family or a weekend boat trip in style.

The 2025 G-Class comes with a suite of safety features that enhance the vehicle’s excellent on- and off-road performance. Standard options include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and speed limit assist, while you can also select the optional adaptive cruise control feature with lane centering assist. This add-on can take over many of the driving tasks you’d usually have to perform while cruising on the highway, but, of course, you’ll still have to remain alert to react to the unexpected.

Pricing

The MSRP for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is likely to range from about $150,000 to $175,000. The exact price you pay will depend on the trim you choose, as well as several optional upgrades that are on offer. The available trim levels will be G 550, G 550 Exclusive, G 550 Manufaktur, G 550 Exclusive Plus, G 550 Manufaktur Plus, and G 550 G Professional. Stepping up to the Exclusive trim adds nappa leather upholstery for an even more luxurious ride. The Manufaktur trims let you personalize your ride more, including with settings for the driver and unique upholstery options.

Even the base trim features a range of interior comforts. You get leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster to monitor performance of your G-Class, and a 12.3-inch infotainment touch screen. The infotainment system boasts Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a premium stereo. You can add a rear-seat infotainment system with twin 11.6-inch displays that allow second-row passengers to stream videos and surf the web. Other optional add-ons include massaging and ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
